2nd Annual Meandering Turkey Trail Race

Cape Girardeau, MO -- November 17, 2012 (Results @ Missouri Running Company Cape Girardeau: http://www.moruncocape.com/klaus-park-meandering-turkey-results.html )

The 2012 Klaus Park Trail Series kicks off on a picture perfect sunny November afternoon with the second running of The Meandering Turkey.  A dry hot summer has made for a packed and fast course that has been manicured into immaculate condition by race director Bryan Kelpe.  Last year's popularity is evidenced with nearly a 50% increase in participation.

The race will see Notre Dame XC teammates Clayton Myers and Brock Kasten battle stride for stride over the "approximately 4.5 miles of hilly, rooty, single track trail".  In the end, Myers will edge out his younger challenger by one second.  The hard-charging Joe Windeknecht will cross the finish line in third place with Andy Johnson and Shaun Rellergert (31:17) fourth and fifth.

Brigitte Stotter remains undefeated in series races with her first place female overall victory.  Brigitte gives herself an early birthday present by knocking 2:46 off her winning time from 2011.  Mary Evans is second less than a minute back.  Madeline McDonald, Marcy Ambler, and Emily Ladd (39:14) complete the top five.

A free pair of New Balance shoes and special awards for division champions will be on the line when the series resumes on December 15, 2012 with The Moonlight Ramble.

3rd Annual Run for One More 5K / 10K

Cape Girardeau, MO -- November 3, 2012 (Results @ Cape Road Runners: (http://www.caperoadrunners.org/results.htm)

Cape Girardeau Road Runner Grand Prix points are available in abundance as 134 runners, along with 51 walkers, gather at St. Andrew Luthern Church for the Third Annual Run for One More 10K/5K.  The event is the 8th in the 2012 series and will be the second consecutive with double-points awarded to participants in the longer race.  In compliance with new city regulations, the 10K course has been altered this year.  Instead of the scenic downtown-river loop, 10K runners will now complete two laps of the 5K Capaha Park loop.

In the 10K, "Ironman" Taylor Vaughan will cruise patiently the first few miles before pulling away for the overall win.  Andy Johnson, fresh off his 3:03:36 marathon debut, is second.  Joe Windeknecht follows in third.  Rounding out the male (and overall) top five are Ross McFerron (41:56) and Dennis Kempt (42:09).

Chellie Jannin continues her streak of PRs and leads the female field.  Alexis Smith places second, the ageless Carol Winter third, and Sarah Pulse fourth as each claim age group wins.  Courtney Schwessler (52:34) is fifth.

Cape Girardeau, MO -- October 28, 2012

At around 7:00 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, October 28, 2012, a group of local runners were "stalked" and struck by two individuals in a motor vehicle.  The motor vehicle had been stolen just minutes before the incident.  Injured in the assault were Laura Sheridan, Ron Rosati, and Paul Schell.  Fortunately, their injuries were limited to cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

The incident occurred at the corner of Main and William streets in downtown Cape Girardeau.  Most reading this post probably cannot count the number of times they too have ran through that intersection.  While it is next to impossible to anticipate a random act of violence, hopely, this will serve as a reminder to always be alert and watchful while on the road.

This post will be undated regularly, and will follow and document this story until the perpetrators (or are they predators?) are sentenced and jailed.
